The Art of Expressing Emotion Through Form
Art has always been a medium for expressing emotions—sometimes vividly, other times subtly. Movement of Line, a ceramic series by artist Park Min-sook, captures this essence through fluid, organic lines carved onto pristine porcelain surfaces. Each stroke, each form tells a story, reflecting the delicate balance between control and surrender, intention and unpredictability.
Lines That Bring Emotion to Life
Lines are the expression of my emotions, drawn in black and white. These lines intersect, forming surfaces, which then take shape and come into existence. On the pristine white porcelain, the lines are sometimes crisp, sometimes blurred. They race forward with unrestrained energy, yet hesitate and linger at times. Once fired in the kiln, beyond my control, they emerge with forms I could not have entirely predicted.
Like an old black-and-white photograph, I no longer recall the exact colors of those emotions. I only know that I have been emptied and filled, again and again.

The Significance of Ho, Mae, Ku, and Hwa
Each piece in the Movement of Line series carries its own unique presence. Ho, Mae, Ku, Hwa—each name represents a different form, a different purpose, yet they all embody the process of emptying and filling, the essence of life itself. These forms are not just functional objects; they are vessels of emotion, holding the weight of experiences, memories, and time.

Even in stillness, they are enough. There is no need to justify their existence. Their purpose lies in simply being—just as emotions do not always need explanations.

Art That Transcends Functionality
The beauty of Movement of Line lies in its ability to resonate beyond its physical form. It seamlessly blends into any space, neither demanding attention nor fading into obscurity. Whether placed in a traditional or modern interior, the pieces carry an understated presence, reminding us that art does not always have to serve a function. Sometimes, its existence alone is meaningful.

A Reflection on Emotions and Creation
“As an artist, I repeatedly empty and fill my creative process, conveying my emotions through each brushstroke and incision, which are then transformed and released into the world.“
Through Movement of Line, I invite you to pause and reflect: What emotions shape your own existence? How do you empty and fill yourself, again and again?
